The problem raised is the fluctuation of the current account which is influenced by the dynamics of international trade and macroeconomic conditions, which can have an impact on national economic stability. The research method used is the Error Correction Model (ECM) to test the short-term and long-term influence between independent variables and current accounts. The data used are annual secondary data from the World Bank and Bank Indonesia. Data processing is carried out using EViews 13 software. The results of the study show that in the short term, exports have a positive and significant effect, while imports have a negative and significant effect. The exchange rate has a positive but insignificant effect, while GDP has a negative and insignificant effect. In the long term, exports will continue to have a positive and significant effect, imports will have a negative and significant effect, the exchange rate will have a positive and insignificant effect, while GDP will have a negative and insignificant effect on the current account. In conclusion, exports and imports are variables that consistently affect the current account both in the short and long term, so that policies to increase export competitiveness and import control are important strategies to improve Indonesia's current account balance.
2026-06-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Economic Development https://ecodev.bunghatta.ac.id/index.php/ecodev/article/view/165 ANALISIS INDEKS KUALITAS LINGKUNGAN HIDUP, INDEKS KEDALAMAN KEMISKINAN, DAN INDEKS PEMBANGUNAN MANUSIA TERHADAP INDEKS KEBAHAGIAAN DI INDONESIA 2026-06-15T08:05:24+00:00 Eva Nelsia evanelsia2708@gmail.com Helmawati Helmawati@bunghatta.ac.id
This study aims to analyze the influence of the Environmental Quality Index (IKLH), the Poverty Depth Index (IKK), and the Human Development Index (HDI) on the Happiness Index (IKB) in Indonesia. Panel data from 34 provinces in 2014, 2017, and 2021 were analyzed using panel data regression with a Fixed Effect Model approach. The results show that IKLH has a significant negative effect on IKB, IKK has no significant effect, while HDI has a significant positive effect. These findings indicate that improving environmental quality is not always followed by increased happiness, while human development plays a significant role in increasing community happiness. Policy implications are directed at a balanced development approach between the environment, the economy, and human well-being.
2026-06-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Economic Development https://ecodev.bunghatta.ac.id/index.php/ecodev/article/view/162 BAGAIMANA PEDAGANG PAKAIAN BEKAS BERTAHAN DAN MENINGKATKAN PENDAPATAN MEREKA? 2026-06-15T07:27:50+00:00 Iqbal Jhonerik’s Nurva Razaq iqbaljhonerick7@gmail.com Erni Febrina Harahap ernifebrinaharahap@bunghatta.ac.id
The fluctuating economic situation that occurs from year to year has given rise to people's creativity in seeking business opportunities, including selling used clothing that is still fit for use. This phenomenon continues to grow with increasing demand, resulting in increasingly fierce competition and a more competitive business environment. This requires adaptability and the development of relevant innovations and strategies to survive in the market. This study examines how traders can increase their income and survive in the market. The variables considered to be influential are capital, business location, product quality, working hours, and price. The method used is multiple linear regression with primary data collected directly from used clothing traders in Padang City and secondary data from related institutions and sources. Through an initial survey, it was found that there are approximately 62 respondents in Padang City who compete in this environment, registered and located in places considered permanent.
2026-06-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Economic Development https://ecodev.bunghatta.ac.id/index.php/ecodev/article/view/166 ANALISIS PENGARUH GAYA HIDUP DIGITAL, KEMUDAHAN TEKNOLOGI, PROMOSI, DAN MANFAAT CASHLESS TERHADAP PENGGUNAAN DIGITAL PAYMENT QUICK RESPONSE INDONESIA STANDARD (QRIS) OLEH MAHASISWA FAKULTAS EKONOMI DAN BISNIS UNIVERSITAS BUNG HATTA 2026-06-15T08:06:49+00:00 Lathifah Dalindra lathifahdalindra04@gmail.com Irwan Muslim irwanmuslim64@gmail.com
This study aims to analyze the influence of digital lifestyle, technology ease, promotion, and cashless benefits on the use of Quick Response Indonesia Standard (QRIS) among students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Bung Hatta University. The research employed a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis. A sample of 385 students was determined using purposive sampling. The results indicate that partially, digital lifestyle, technology ease, promotion, and cashless benefits have a positive and significant effect on QRIS usage. Simultaneously, the four variables significantly affect QRIS usage with an F-value of 248.873 and a significance level of 0.000. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.821 shows that 82.1% of the variation in QRIS usage can be explained by the research model. The most dominant factor is cashless benefits. These findings highlight that digital lifestyle, technology ease, promotion, and cashless benefits play an essential role in encouraging QRIS adoption among students.
2026-06-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Economic Development https://ecodev.bunghatta.ac.id/index.php/ecodev/article/view/169 ANALISIS DAMPAK PENGEMBANGAN WISATA KONSERVASI PENYU TERHADAP PENDAPATAN MASYARAKAT LOKAL DESA APAR, KOTA PARIAMAN 2026-06-15T08:28:05+00:00 Selfia Safitri selfiasafitripia@gmail.com Nurul Huda nurulhuda1326@gmail.com
This study aims to analyze the impact of sea turtle conservation tourism development on the income of the local community in Apar Village, Pariaman City, focusing on four variables: location, infrastructure, promotion, and educational programs. The background of this study is based on the great potential of sea turtle conservation tourism in improving the community's economy through the creation of jobs and business opportunities. The research method uses a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis. The research population consists of all business operators and workers in the sea turtle conservation tourism area, totaling 43 respondents, selected using total sampling technique. The results indicate that, individually, the variables of location, infrastructure, promotion, and educational programs have a positive and significant impact on community income. Simultaneously, all four variables also have a significant impact on income, with the coefficient of determination (R²) indicating a strong contribution. Strategic location, adequate infrastructure, effective promotion, and community-involving educational programs are the main drivers of increased tourist visits and local income. The study concludes that the development of sea turtle conservation tourism plays an important role in improving the welfare of the community in Desa Apar. Recommendations are provided to local governments and tourism managers to strengthen digital-based promotion, improve infrastructure quality, and develop sustainable educational programs that actively involve the community.
2026-06-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Economic Development https://ecodev.bunghatta.ac.id/index.php/ecodev/article/view/167 ASYMMETRIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN REMITTANCES AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA 2026-06-15T08:28:27+00:00 Stephen Olabode Odedoyin stevbodedoyin@gmail.com
The paper explored the asymmetric or nonlinear effects between remittances and sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The study used panel data from 30 selected Sub-Saharan African countries for the period spanning 2000 to 2022, which were obtained from the World Development Indicators (WDI) 2022 Database and the Sustainable Development Report 2023 Database. Panel Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (PNARDL) methodology was employed for empirical analysis. The empirical results from panel NARDL approach on the asymmetric effects between remittances and sustainable development showed an asymmetric effect with a negative significant relationship between positive remittance shock and sustainable development ( ), while a positive significant link was established between negative remittance shock and sustainable development in the selected SSA countries ( ). Alternative estimations using adjusted net savings (ANS) as alternative proxy and measure of sustainable development besides the sustainable development goals index (SDGI) and the results were robust. The study demonstrated that there exists an asymmetric relationship between remittances and sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa. These findings imply that higher inflows of remittances may not necessarily spur sustainable development in the selected SSA countries, as the relationship is nonlinear. The study recommended that governments and policy makers in the subcontinent need to create mechanisms to fully harness remittance inflows so that substantial buffers can be built in periods of economic downturn to cater for shortfalls that may occur in periods of economic boom based on the countercyclicality nature of remittances.
2026-06-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Economic Development https://ecodev.bunghatta.ac.id/index.php/ecodev/article/view/168 ANALISIS PERBANDINGAN JUMLAH PENDUDUK KABUPATEN/KOTA PROVINSI SUMATERA UTARA TERHADAP KETIMPANGAN PEMBANGUNAN EKONOMI DAERAH TAHUN 2024 2026-06-15T08:34:00+00:00 Difa Aprilia Marpaung difamarpaung7@gmail.com Sahala Fransiskus Marbun sahala@unimed.ac.id
The primary objective of this research is to analyze the differences in population size among districts and cities in North Sumatra Province and examine how these variations contribute to regional economic development inequality in 2024. The main problem addressed in this study is the extent to which population distribution influences disparities in regional per capita income, which ultimately reflects spatial inequality across the province. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The data include population figures and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita for 33 districts and cities. The analysis utilizes the Williamson Index to measure the level of inequality by comparing each region’s per capita income with the provincial average. The findings reveal that most districts and cities in North Sumatra fall within the low inequality category, with Williamson Index values ranging from 0.004 to 0.20. This indicates that income variations across the province are generally small. However, Medan City stands out with a Williamson Index value of 0.50, placing it in the medium inequality category due to its significantly higher per capita income. Meanwhile, regions such as Langkat, Pematang Siantar, Tanjung Balai, and Binjai show very low levels of inequality, demonstrating strong income distribution uniformity. In conclusion, economic inequality in North Sumatra is predominantly low, with Medan City being the primary contributor to regional disparities. These results highlight the importance of strengthening equitable development policies and optimizing the role of major growth centers to support surrounding areas.
2026-06-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Economic Development
